Janna is a legal assistant with over 10 years of experience in the legal field. At OKT, she supports her lawyers in providing strategic legal advice to First Nations governments to advance their rights to self-determination, protect their lands and traditions, and take back jurisdiction of child and family services.
Before to joining OKT, Janna worked as a legal assistant/paralegal at an wholly-owned Indigenous law firm in Victoria. In this role, she gained her initial experience working with First Nations in the areas of governance, employment, consultation, lands and resources, title and rights, and economic development. She also has prior experience working in corporate/commercial at a mid-sized law firm in Victoria, as well as specialized in immigration law at a boutique employment law firm in Vancouver.
Janna holds a BA in Anthropology from University of Victoria, as well as a legal assistant certificate (Capilano University), a paralegal certificate in litigation (Vancouver Community College), and a certificate in immigration laws and policies (University of British Columbia).
