Managing Lands and Resources
OKT’s lawyers have decades of experience helping Indigenous clients reduce constraints on their inherent sovereignty and use Canadian law to their advantage. We have worked extensively with legislation affecting Indigenous peoples including the Indian Act, First Nations Land Management Act, and environmental legislation. We advise on protecting lands and cultural and burial sites, including through establishing parks and co-management regimes.
OKT advises Indigenous clients on self-government and jurisdiction, social services, employment, labour and human rights law, and on governance structures and policies to meet clients’ goals of building self-determining and accountable governments that reflect their Indigenous laws. Our objective is to help our clients control costs, manage risk, and develop and maintain internal, long-term capacity for thriving governments and institutions.
