Jamie is Counsel at OKT, practicing generally in the area of Indigenous rights. He has nearly two decades of experience working on issues involving First Nations. He has substantial experience in assisting Nations in protecting and governing their traditional territories, having negotiated Impact Benefit Agreements in several jurisdictions. He has generally advised Nations in a wide variety of contexts.

Uniquely for a private practitioner, Jamie also has general-counsel and corporate management experience, having spent several years as an executive-level employee of a First Nation and their economic development enterprise.

Jamie holds a Master of Laws degree at the University of Saskatchewan where he wrote a dissertation scrutinizing the evolving nature of the Supreme Court of Canada’s approach to defining the nature of Crown obligations owed to Indigenous communities in Canada.

Jamie’s book “The Honour and Dishonour of the Crown: Making Sense of Aboriginal Law in Canada” has been cited by the Supreme Court of Canada and by multiple provincial appellate courts.

Jamie resides in Yellowknife. He is a member of the bars of Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.
