Oliver MacLaren is an associate at OKT. Oliver advises First Nations on economic development, and corporate/commercial transactions. This includes negotiations on major partnerships with renewable energy proponents, and advice on negotiations and litigation in the natural resources sector.
Before joining OKT, Oliver was an associate at one of Calgary’s prominent Aboriginal law firms. He has litigated breach of trust matters, appeared before energy and utilities regulatory hearings, and worked on commercial development for First Nation businesses. Oliver has also appeared before superior and appellate levels of Court in Alberta, and has contributed to written submissions before the Supreme Court of Canada.
Oliver received his J.D. from the University of Calgary, where he won awards for negotiating, and is the recipient of the Dean Michel Wylie Award for Social Responsibility. During law school, Oliver worked closely with the chief negotiator of the Indian Residential Schools settlement, completing research on the distribution of $1.9 billion in reparations money.
Oliver is a member of the Alberta and Ontario bars.
