Kate Buttery works in affialiation with OKT from her office in Vancouver, British Columbia. Kate advises First Nations on treaty land entitlement claims, and the duty to consult and accommodate. She represents First Nations in civil litigation and negotiations, and she has done work regarding protection of burial and cultural sites.
Kate received her LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School. During law school, she worked as a research assistant on issues related to Aboriginal title and inherent sovereignty, and on a major research project on the impacts of Canadian mining on Indigenous communities in Latin America. Kate also volunteered at the Community and Legal Aid Services Programme, Pro Bono Students Canada, and Parkdale Community Legal Services. She has received awards recognizing academic achievement.
Kate is a member of the British Columbia and Ontario bars.
